Kimberley Tour Guiding
As a child I was really lucky to have been brought up in the best of both worlds, the bush where I learnt to ride horses and the beach, riding waves.
However it was the Kimberley that go me deep when I was in my early 20's, having just completed a degree in leisure studies.
With Roderick Woodland and another mate Greg Forrest, we established Kimberley Pursuits, a specialist horse trekking business operating out of Digger's Rest Station.
It was an amazing time and I loved taking guests into the spectacular country in the region.
I learnt to shoe and work young horses, understand the geography and be mesmerised by the incredibly rich Aboriginal culture.
Today I am so happy that I am still taking guests to Digger's and helping them experience what I love, through Rachel's and my creative adventure tour business,
On the Verandah.
I also apply my leisure training and experience to helping baby boomers adjust to life after work.
Through helping them understand what work has meant to them, my clients are able to find meaning and purpose outside of paid work.
I do this with serious leisure. This concept allows the individual to replace the intrinsic benefits of work with a leisure pursuit that provides challenge and growth.
These principles are also applied in my work with helping women gain confidence through access more leisure. Women experience far less equitable quality leisure than men and my work is aimed at righting this imbalance.
My professional leisure experience has culminated in a program called Life Revitalised that is designed to help people who are facing uncertainty or unrest from life's transitions.
